Negative bank is used when payouts (e.g., gaming) exceed available funds, making it impossible to restore floats to full levels.

  • Example: Gaming pays out heavily, leaving insufficient funds to top up floats.

  • The safe temporarily covers the shortfall.

Best Practices

  • Always resolve negative bank entries within the same trading week.

  • Use clear comments (e.g., “Gaming shortfall cover, repaid next day”).

  • Monitor the Movements Log to ensure repayments are recorded.

When to Contact your System Admin

  • Negative bank repayments do not clear as expected.

  • Transactions remain “outstanding” despite repayment.

  • Negative bank entries do not appear in the Movements Log.
